“Beast Mode” activated: My week driving a GMC HUMMER EV SUV

By Jennifer McKeogh, senior manager, GM internal communications

Last month, I got behind the wheel of a GMC HUMMER EV for the first time. Here are some of my first impressions – including how the HUMMER EV finally made me a “cool mom.”

In mid-September, I picked up what would be my daily drive for one week – a 2025 GMC HUMMER EV 3X SUV. I’m not ashamed to say I was nervous at first – I’m more of a compact SUV girl. But the nerves soon wore off – and I discovered my favorite things about my new ride:

  • Performance: The HUMMER EV SUV boasts a GM-estimated 850 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. But it’s surprisingly agile. Four-wheel steering made tight corners a breeze, and parking was no problem for me thanks to the surround-vision cameras.
  • Off-road capabilities: The HUMMER EV handled the steep, unpaved streets of my rural neighborhood like a smooth highway on a Sunday morning.
  • Innovative tech: The Super Cruise Driver Assistance Technology1 made my hour-long daily commute a breeze, with hands-free driving and lane changing2. Combined with the advanced infotainment system and built-in Google Assistant, I actually looked forward to my 80-plus mile round trip.
  • Multiple charging options: My experience timed perfectly with the launch of GM’s purchasable NACS DC charging adapters, giving GM EV drivers access to more than 17,800 Tesla Superchargers. Enabling the supercharger network on the GMC app and using the charger was a breeze for me.
  • Design and aesthetics: The HUMMER EV makes a statement. Being the center of attention everywhere I went would normally make me uncomfortable, but it was fun to have my vehicle turn heads. My 13-year-old son even told me all his friends think I’m “soooo cool” – which has literally never happened before. Ever.

The best thing to me is that the HUMMER EV combines the benefits of being all-electric with the feel of a traditional truck – from precise on-road handling to off-road capability. Even my EV-skeptical, truck-loving husband fell in love, proclaiming, “I would literally trade my pickup for this TOMORROW.”

If that’s not a testimonial, I don’t know what is.
